City of Jacksonville issued the following announcement on Jan. 30.

On this day in 1849, the City of Jacksonville was officially ratified and laid out.

We celebrate our 174th anniversary today.

Here’s a little bit of City trivia for our anniversary.

Did you know: We were named after President Andrew Jackson, but Jacksonville almost had another name.

The City was originally going to be named Cedarville after the abundant Cedar trees in our area.
