City of Jacksonville issued the following announcement on Dec. 20.

We will be holding a hiring event at the Center for Public Safety, 200 Marine Boulevard on Friday, January 6, 2023 for those interested in a career as Telecommunicator.

Telecommunicators train with our Jacksonville dispatch crew and receive a starting salary of $32.8K annually.

Our Telecommunicators talk to people on their worst days and help them through distressing events by answering 911 calls. Telecommunicators are calm in crisis and great at multi-tasking, with skills in technology and customer service.

Job duties include training in emergency communications, answering 911 calls, communicating with police officers and firefighting personnel, conducting criminal background checks, dispatching emergency personnel and resources; maintaining records and creating reports.

Interested applicants must apply online first at JacksonvilleNC.gov/Jobs and complete preliminary skills assessment. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED. Qualified applicants will be invited to take additional assessments and job-specific tests at our January 6 hiring event.
