City of Jacksonville issued the following announcement on Mar. 14.

Local Navy Medical Officer Receives National Award: Jacksonville is proud of our local military, and especially proud of MCB Camp Lejeune LT Kevin A Hunt, USN, who just won national recognition as the 2021 Plans, Operations and Medical Intelligence (POMI) Officer of the Year.

The POMI award, presented by the US Navy Medical Service Corps, recognizes one Navy Medical Operations Officer each year for exemplary performance and duty.

“There are so many outstanding planners in the medical operations community and it is an absolute honor that the leaders within my specialty selected me to represent the entire corps,” said Hunt.

Hunt has served at Camp Lejeune with the 24th MEU since June 2020. He has 19 years experience in Navy medicine and was recognized for his work to keep his unit safe and healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic. He has developed procedures for medical readiness, organized PCR COVID testing, supported vaccination of the 24th MEU, and provided health support during evacuation efforts in Kabul, Afghanistan in August 2021.

In Jacksonville, we salute all our military. They are truly a part of this City, this Caring Community.
