City of Jacksonville issued the following announcement on Jan. 3.

A portion of Fairway Road in Jacksonville will be closed from January 9- January 18 2023 between Commerce Road and University Drive.

The closure is due to a North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) expansion project.

Contractors will be working on sewer and sewer main relocations on Fairway Road as part of the larger NCDOT project in the area of Commerce Road and Piney Green.

The Fairway Road closure is necessary to allow crews to cut into portions of the street surface for manhole relocation.

Road barriers and detour signs will help guide motorists around the construction area.

We are asking motorists to use caution as there will be heavy machinery and workers at the location.
