County of Onslow issued the following announcement on Aug. 31.

Onslow County has been awarded a special recognition from the Government Finance Officers Association. The Finance Department received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its comprehensive annual financial report for the 2021 fiscal year.

An impartial panel judged the report and found that it met the high standards set by the GFOA and demonstrably exhibited a spirt of transparency and disclosure. This marks the 30th time that the Onslow County Finance Department has received the award.

“The Onslow County Finance Department is dedicated to achieving the highest standards of governmental accounting and financial reporting,” Interim Finance Officer Lisa Marlin says. “This award illustrates our long-standing commitment to preparing annual comprehensive financial reports that meet the stringent reporting standards set forth by the Government Finance Officers Association.”

Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting and it represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

The GFOA was founded in 1906 with the mission to advance excellence in public finance. The organization has more than 20,000 members.
