COUNTY OF ONSLOW: Department of Social Services is accepting donations for the Elder Cheer Program

0Comments

County of Onslow issued the following announcement on Nov. 21.

The Onslow County Department of Social Services is accepting donations for the Elder Cheer program through November 30, 2022. Donations can be dropped off at the Onslow County Consolidated Human Services building located at 612 College Street, Jacksonville, NC.

Commonly needed items for Elder Cheer include toothpaste, hairbrushes, deodorant, shampoo, lotions, soap, non-slip slippers, gloves, jackets, sweatshirts, hats, sleepwear, underwear, pants, shirts, and t-shirts. Full sized, unscented products are needed for both men and women. Checks are also accepted which go towards the purchase of personalized gifts and gift cards for those with the greatest need.

Many adult care home residents receive Medicaid, leaving them only $90 per month to spend on personal care needs, medical visits, and medication copays. Elder Cheer is a way for our citizens to acknowledge and celebrate the people in the community who have limited resources and support systems.

Elder Cheer is continuing to partner with the 4-H Clubs of Onslow County. Volunteers will create Christmas baskets using donated items and will provide them to the adult care facilities prior to the holidays.

Checks can be made out to “Elder Cheer” and mailed to the Onslow County Department of Social Services (Attn: CORE Services), PO Box 1379, Jacksonville NC 28541. For additional information visit OnslowCountyNC.gov/ElderCheer
