County of Onslow issued the following announcement on Feb. 6.

Celebrating Black History in Onslow County – The Onslow County Musuem continues to work to preserve the history of African Americans in our county.

Included in the museum’s collection of artifacts is a tambourine once used by Mrs. L.L. McIver, M.A., who taught music at Georgetown School.

Objects like these may initially seem unexciting but their preservation helps keep us connected to the past and ensure that the stories they represent are told to future generations. If you are interested in the donation process, please call the Museum at (910) 324-5008.
