County of Onslow issued the following announcement on Jan. 16.
The NC Department of Transportation has awarded a $3.4 million contract to replace the U.S. 17 Northbound bridge over Wolf Swamp to the S.T. Wooten Corporation.
Work can start this winter and is expected to be complete by spring 2024.
To avoid traffic disruptions, an on-site detour consisting of a temporary bridge will be built adjacent to the existing bridge.
