FOIA Request to Onslow County Election Department Regarding Pre-Election Voting Machine Test Reports on October 30, 2024.

As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Onslow News have sent a request for public records under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1.

The request specifically seeks access to the pre-election test reports of voting machines used in the county’s elections. We are interested in obtaining these reports in an electronic format, preferably PDF.

The details we have requested include the date of testing, the machine’s manufacturer, its model number, and whether it passed or failed the test. These details are crucial in our efforts to provide transparency and accountability regarding the electoral process.

We believe that as members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. This includes holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals. We eagerly await a response from the Onslow County Election Department regarding this request.
