The City of Jacksonville announced on May 8 the development of “Inspiration Field,” a new all-inclusive, ADA-compliant youth baseball field. Construction is set to begin in May at the former skatepark site within the Commons Recreation Complex, with completion expected by the end of 2026.
The project aims to expand recreational opportunities for children of all abilities by providing a safe and accessible environment. The field will feature a rubberized playing surface designed to accommodate youth with mobility challenges, adaptive equipment needs, and varying physical abilities. The city said this specialized surface will allow all participants to fully engage in baseball activities while promoting confidence and teamwork.
Additional amenities are planned as part of the project, including a shelter pavilion and new walking trails. These enhancements are intended to make the site a versatile recreational area for families and visitors.
The total cost for Inspiration Field is $1.2 million. Funding includes a $500,000 grant from the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund combined with city funds.
“This project represents our commitment to creating spaces where every child has the opportunity to play, connect, and thrive,” said Susan Baptist, Director of Recreation. “We are excited to provide a facility that truly reflects the spirit of inclusion and community.”
