The City of Jacksonville announced on April 14 that it will host an Earth Day celebration at Sturgeon City on Saturday, April 18, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., following a proclamation by Mayor Sammy Phillips.

The event aims to bring the community together for activities focused on science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM), as well as environmental awareness. Organizers say the celebration is free and open to all residents who want to learn more about local efforts for sustainability and enjoy creative activities.

Attendees can participate in hands-on STEAM activities, explore interactive exhibits and games, and connect with organizations working in the area. The event will also feature live music performed by the band 2Digh4, a community craft fair, and several food trucks offering various options.

For those interested in art, there will be a painting contest with cash prizes awarded—$200 for the top artist and $100 for the top youth artist. The location of the event is at 50 Court St., Building 100.

City officials encourage families and friends to join in celebrating Earth Day through learning opportunities and creative expression. Those seeking more information or wishing to sign up as vendors are directed to visit Sturgeon City’s Earth Day Celebration and Craft Fair event page.
