The City of Jacksonville announced on April 6 that it will celebrate new homeowners in downtown Jacksonville with a wreath presentation and open house event scheduled for April 7. The ceremony will take place at noon at 408 and 410 Anne Street, where the public is invited to join the outdoor celebration followed by an open house for a second home on an adjacent lot.

The event is part of Community Development Week, which highlights affordable housing initiatives across the country. Jacksonville’s Neighborhood Improvement Services receives federal funding through Community Development Block Grants, working with local builders to construct and refurbish homes throughout the city.

Neighborhood Improvement Services, led by Director Tracy Jackson, aims to revitalize neighborhoods and support economic growth by providing opportunities for homeownership. “What’s the benefit of programs such as this? These partnerships help build new affordable homes in blighted areas of the City contributing to our revitalization efforts and improving our tax base,” Jackson said.

Homes built under this initiative are intended not just as structures but as lasting residences for local families. Homebuyers have qualified for mortgages with lenders while also receiving down payment assistance from the city’s Down Payment Assistance program. Additionally, buyers receive the value of city-owned lots as a third mortgage that is forgiven if they occupy their home for ten years.

As Jacksonville continues its downtown and neighborhood revitalization efforts—including projects in Country Club Villas and along Marine Boulevard—the city looks forward to welcoming more families into newly constructed homes during Community Development Week.
