Most Onslow County government offices and operations will be closed on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, in observance of Veterans Day.
The closures include the Onslow County Landfill, which will reopen at 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 12. Convenience Sites are also set to resume normal operations at 8 a.m. that day.
Onslow County Public Library branches and the Onslow County Museum will not be open on Veterans Day but plan to return to regular hours on Wednesday.
Administrative offices for the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office will be closed Tuesday. However, deputies and Animal Services Officers will continue to respond to emergency calls.
The Department of Social Services is also scheduled to close for the holiday. For Child or Adult Protective Services reports during this time, residents are advised to call the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office at 910-455-3113 and request to speak with the social worker on-call.
The Onslow County Board of Elections will be closed both November 10 and November 11, reopening on Wednesday, November 12.
The Tax Office will observe Veterans Day by closing as well. Normal business hours resume Wednesday at 8 a.m.
Recent data shows that in the 2022-23 school year, about one in five senior students (18.7%) in Onslow County school districts who took the science portion of the ACT were considered ready for college (source). Junior students had similar results with an 18.9% readiness rate (source). In reading, approximately one-third of seniors (34.2%) demonstrated college readiness (source), while juniors performed slightly better at 36.2% (source). For math, readiness rates were lower; only 19.1% of seniors and 20.1% of juniors met college-ready benchmarks (source).
