Most Onslow County government offices will be closed on April 3 in observance of the Good Friday holiday, according to a March 30 announcement. The closure affects several county services and facilities, with some adjusting their schedules around the Easter weekend.

The closure is significant as it impacts public access to key county services during the holiday period. Residents are advised to plan accordingly due to changes in operating hours for libraries, waste disposal sites, and other departments.

According to the announcement, all Onslow County Public Library branches will be closed on both Friday and Saturday. Regular business hours will resume on Monday, April 6. The Main Library branch, which typically opens on Sundays, will also remain closed on Easter Sunday.

The Onslow County Landfill and Convenience Sites are scheduled to close on Friday but will reopen for regular operations on Saturday. Similarly, the Onslow County Museum will not open its doors on Friday but plans to return to its normal schedule starting Saturday.

The Department of Social Services (DSS) is also included in these closures. However, individuals needing to report child or elder abuse or related concerns can still reach an on-call social worker by contacting the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office at 910-455-3113.

In addition to service updates for the holiday period, recent educational data show that among senior students taking the science portion of the ACT in Onslow County school districts during the 2022-23 school year, about 18.7 percent were considered ready for college according to state education officials. For juniors taking science in that same period, approximately 18.9 percent met college readiness standards according to state education officials.

For reading scores among seniors during this time frame, about 34.2 percent achieved college readiness according to state education officials, while juniors reached a slightly higher rate at approximately 36.2 percent according to state education officials. In math assessments among seniors and juniors respectively, roughly 19.1 percent and 20.1 percent were deemed ready for college-level work according to state education officials.

Residents are encouraged to review these adjusted schedules before visiting any county facility over Easter weekend.
