Onslow County Schools are stepping up to ensure its students don’t go hungry following the unexpected closure of school because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Nine schools began serving food March 17, with an additional site added as classes will be closed through at least Friday, May 15. Free breakfast and lunch are available to kids ages 1 to 18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. Breakfast will consist of items that can be eaten the next day.
According to WITN, meals are available for pick-up at the following sites: Clyde Erwin Elementary Magnet, Dixon Elementary School, Hunters Creek Elementary School, Jacksonville High School, Northside High School, Northwoods Elementary School, Richlands Elementary School, Southwest Elementary School, Southwest High School and Swansboro High School.
All 10 sites are to be accessed by either walk-up or drive-thru. The students can pick up multiple meals in addition to their parents or guardians. Those placing the order are asked to provide staff with the number of meals needed.
