City of Jacksonville issued the following announcement on Mar. 25.
City Buildings Closed to Public Until Further Notice
In an effort to limit person-to-person contact and to protect our valued employees and Citizens, most City of Jacksonville buildings will have restricted building access beginning at 5PM, Wednesday, March 25, 2020.
The drive up access at City Hall to Utility Billing for water and sewer account payments will continue as usual. Phones will be available at the two public entrances to City Hall where residents can communicate with City staff. City Staff will remain on duty inside City Hall. Person-to-person contact will not be allowed.
Many functions with the City can be performed online. Please check our website at JacksonvilleNC.gov for more information. Or call us at 910 938-5200.
For the Center for Public Safety, the public can interact with staff via the Taxi Permit Window at the main entrance to the Center. All Fire Stations are closed to the public at this time. You may also call the Administrative Line at 910 455-4000. Only dial 9-1-1 if you are experiencing an emergency.
Some recreation facilities will remain operational but will follow the Governor’s Order of limiting gatherings to less than 50 persons. More information is on the Recreation webpage at JacksonvilleNC.gov/Recreation and the Recreation Facebook Page.
Parks are still open, but if residents elect to use playground equipment, they should be prepared to wipe down surfaces with recommended cleaning products before and after use. Because these products are limited in our area, City staff cannot wipe down every surface between uses. Users are encouraged to bring their own wipes and cleaners for their use.
“These actions are intended to protect our staff, and the public, from person-to-person contact during this critical period,” said Richard Woodruff, City Manager.
The City has acted after guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, The White House Coronavirus Task Force, NC Governor’s Executive Orders, and the Onslow County Health Department.
City staff working outside will remain on duty also and are to follow the COVID-19 guidelines for interactions. This includes Police and Fire who previously went to precautionary actions to limit person-to-person contact.
