Dare County issued the following announcement on Dec. 23.
The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Warning and a High Wind Warning for Dare County that will bring high winds and the potential for 2 to 4 feet of life-threatening above ground inundation, rough surf, beach erosion, ocean overwash, and soundside flooding.
Residents, visitors and business owners should be alert for rising water and take action to protect themselves and their property. Travel will become hazardous and conditions may make N.C. Highway 12 impassable in some areas, particularly on Hatteras Island.
