County of Onslow issued the following announcement on Aug. 27.
The Onslow Civic Affairs Committee along with Jacksonville Mayor Sammy Phillips and Fire and Emergency Services Chief Tee Tallman placed a wreath at the Freedom Fountain in memory of those who died today in Kabul.
The Freedom Fountain is dedicated to all those who pass through Onslow County in service to our nation. It is a tradition that the Committee recognizes those significant losses such as the one that occurred today. While the identities and homes of those who perished today are not yet known at this moment, they are nonetheless part of the Marine and Navy community that exists here.
