County of Onslow issued the following announcement on Jan. 7.
A new one-day record for COVID-19 cases was set for Onslow County on Friday, just four days after the last record day had been recorded. The new one-day record is 756 cases set on Friday, which is 177 more than the previous record set last Monday in Onslow County.*.
Onslow Health Director Kristen Hoover reports an additional fatality due to COVID-19. The person was under 65 years old and had underlying conditions. The number of persons who have died from COVID-19 is now set at 283, up two from last Monday. The County mourns all those who have been lost to COVID-19 and sends condolences to their families and friends..
There are nearly 2500 active cases of COVID-19 in Onslow County today, as the positivity rate for testing in Onslow has soared to 26.8%. The State’s positivity rate from testing is 31.1% and continuing to climb. The Onslow rate is 10.5% higher than last Monday, while the State’s rate is 3.7% higher than last Monday..
Today Onslow County Health officials reported 35,315 COVID-19 cases. 32,555 cases have been cleared leaving 2,477 active cases of COVID-19 in Onslow County. That is 1,018 cases higher than last Monday..
There are now 11 outbreaks and clusters in Onslow County, the same as last Thursday..
Vaccinations and Positivity Rate
While the Onslow Positivity rate is high at 26.8%, it is a 14-Day rolling average. The State rate of 31.1% is a one-day rate. As for vaccinations, 71.1% of Onslow County residents have received at least one dose of vaccine compared to the State average of 63%. Onslow has 56.8% residents fully vaccinated compared to 59% of the state. A total of 112,338 Onslow residents have a full vaccination, up 826 from last Monday.

The Onslow County Health Department continues to offer vaccines Monday – Friday (8:30-4:30), with late clinic on Tuesdays until 6:30PM. StarMed in the Branchwood shopping plaza has expanded testing hours from 8AM-8PM 7 days a week. Testing is still available at Goshen Medical Center and at many retail pharmacies. Residents can call the Onslow County Citizens Phone Bank at 910 989-5027 for information.
