City of Jacksonville issued the following announcement on Apr. 13.
City Celebrates Arbor Day at Northeast Creek Park
City designated as a Tree City USA for 42nd consecutive year by the Arbor Day Foundation
The City of Jacksonville will hold its annual Arbor Day Ceremony at Northeast Creek Park, 10AM on Friday, April 29, 2022. Traditionally, this observance is held at an area elementary school or public space. This year the ceremony will be held at Northeast Creek Park and will be open to the public.
The City’s Horticulturalist, Jason Smith has secured 12 trees including three each of River Birch, Eastern Redbuds, Serviceberry and Magnolia trees.
This year marks the 42nd year that Jacksonville has received the Tree City USA designation from the Arbor Day Foundation.
The City’s Tree Board, comprised of members of the Environmental & Appearance Advisory Committee, oversees the Tree City USA efforts and works with the City’s Parks Division in tree preservation and appreciation matters. Additionally, the group oversees a memorial tree program where trees are planted in honor, or in memory, of a person, group or activity.
The ceremony will be recorded for sharing on the City’s social media pages and G10TV.
