City of Jacksonville issued the following announcement on June 7.
Lane closures and traffic stops are possible from June 11-15 at the intersection of US 17, NC53 and NC 258. Due to a NC Department of Transportation and Duke Energy project to install new power lines, traffic will be intermittently stopped at the intersection. Weekend work hours are 6 AM- noon and weekday work hours are 10 AM-4 PM.
Traffic will be redirected in a stop and go pattern with local law enforcement directing traffic. Please plan for delays, slow down, and give crews room to work. In addition to this road closure, a portion of the road on Yopp Road will be closed from June 11-15 as indicated on the map. The road will be blocked off and not closed intermittently.
From June 18-22, the second phase of this project will occur on U.S. 258 (Richlands Highway) between Yopp Road and U.S. 17 Business. During this phase, a section of the five-lane roadway will be reduced to one lane of travel in each direction with intermittent road closures possible. Drivers should be cautious of flaggers directing traffic while these projects are underway.
