Town of Swansboro issued the following announcement on Sept. 12.
Come out for a day of fun and support our heroes.
The Tunnel to Towers Run & Walk Series was created to honor the heroic life and death of Stephen Siller, a New York City firefighter (FDNY) who lost his life on September 11, 2001 after strapping on his gear and running through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers. With these events, we honor all of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and support our First Responders & Military who make extraordinary sacrifices in the line of duty!
This is a 5K (3.1 miles) event. People of any age or ability are welcome to come out and run/walk/wheel/push to experience this event.
Packet Pickup is on Friday night 9/16 from 5-7 pm at the Swansboro Rec Center (site of the Saturday). You may also pickup your packet on the morning of the event – from 6-7:30 am at the event site.
Our First Responders/Military members will lead out the 5K. Runners predicting a pace faster than a 7 minute/mile will be seeded in the front corral behind our starters.
