U.S. Representative Greg Murphy (R-NC) has declared his support for initiating an impeachment inquiry into President Joseph Biden. The basis of Murphy's decision is what he perceives as inadequate cooperation from key witnesses in the ongoing investigations into alleged corruption involving Biden.
According to a press release issued by Murphy's office, the Congressman said: "For several months, the House Oversight, Judiciary, and Ways and Means Committees have worked diligently and judiciously to uncover the misdeeds and corruption of President Biden. However, with the White House and key witnesses refusing to participate in this process, a formal inquiry has become necessary to expand the investigatory and litigatory power of the committees. As a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, I have been deeply involved in building the case against President Biden through closed-door meetings and testimony from whistleblowers. Under its expanded authority, I remain confident that the committee will continue to follow where the facts lead."
Fox News reported that the House voted 221 to 212 to formalize the impeachment inquiry into President Biden. Republicans supported this measure in an effort to compel White House cooperation while all present Democrats voted against it, leading to contrasting reactions between parties within the chamber. GOP-led committees have been investigating allegations that President Biden used his former vice presidency for personal gain by benefiting his family's foreign business ventures, particularly focusing on his brother James Biden and Hunter Biden who faces federal investigations on tax and firearm charges. This vote took place after Hunter Biden made an unexpected appearance at the U.S. Capitol where he was scheduled for a closed-door deposition with the Oversight Committee. However, Hunter chose instead to briefly speak with reporters about his father's innocence before leaving Capitol Hill.
Murphy's website states that he is currently serving his third term representing North Carolina's Third Congressional District which includes Eastern North Carolina areas such as New Bern, Jacksonville, Washington, and Outer Banks. He holds positions on the House Ways and Means, Veterans' Affairs, and House Administration Committees and co-chairs the House GOP Doctors Caucus.
