Town of Surf City issued the following announcement on Mar. 11.
The Surf City Town Council proudly announces the appointment of John Koloski as the newest council member. The Council voted to appoint Mr. Koloski during their regularly scheduled Town Council Meeting last night on Tuesday, March 1, 2022. Mr. John Koloski will be sworn in by the town clerk and take his seat at the next scheduled council work session on March 18, 2022, at 9 a.m.
John currently serves as the Chairman of the Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Advisory Committee (PRTAC) and has worked with Council and Staff over the last 4 years and has overseen the growth in programming and facilities experienced in that department and in our community. He became a member of the PRATC in August of 2018 and took office as chairperson for the committee in July 2021. He has been a very active member attending and volunteering for beach and street sweeps, and many special events. In 2021 he volunteered to be the stage manager for Bridge Jam. He has attended all the Skate Park Design Team meetings as well as the Beautification and Enhancement Committee meetings. “We have someone who has served the town and has been serving on town boards for 4-5 years, served as chairman of the board and someone that will represent the people of the community in the way they want to be represented and show good faith.” – Buddy Fowler, Mayor Pro-Tem
John and his wife, Robin, moved to Surf City from Pennsylvania in 2012 for retirement after falling in love with the island during their many vacations. They have a daughter, Sandy, and a son, DJ who shares their love of the community. John and Robin owned and operated a restaurant in Pennsylvania, “My Friend’s Place”, adding experience in small business to his credentials. Mr. Koloski spent years serving the maintenance and construction industries with his leadership before his retirement as the Maintenance Director at Southwest Regional Medical Center.
“We had several great candidates who were interested in the open seat that we had to consider, and I feel that each of them could’ve done a good job serving our community. However, John has been very involved with the town for a while, giving him experience with our current issues and tasks at hand. I feel this will give him the advantage to do a great job for the people here in Surf City.” – Mayor Doug Medlin
