A state senator is applauding North Carolina's Community Colleges system after they were ranked as some of the best in the nation.
Sen. Harry Brown said in a July 29 Facebook post that it was "great to see North Carolina Community Colleges are again at the top of the list of best community colleges in America."
The rankings were compiled by SmartAsset for its annual Best Community Colleges in America.
Based on the organization's study, three of the Top 10 community colleges nationwide are from North Carolina. Brunswick Community College in Bolivia ranked first overall. The College of Albemarle in Elizabeth City and Carteret Community College in Morehead City ranked second and fourth respectively.
"North Carolina's community colleges offer the best value you will find," Brown said in his Facebook post. "The General Assembly's commitment of support for this treasured educational resource helps provide students in our state with exceptional workforce training contributing to bright futures for our citizens."
In ranking Brunswick No. 1, SmartAsset cited the $2,532 tuition for two semesters, its student-to-faculty ratio and a high graduation and transfer rate.
Rounding out the Top 10 where community colleges from Kansas, Washington, Louisiana, Nebraska, Colorado, Arkansas and Oregon.
